My grandfather was a blacksmith. When he retired, he opened a small shop in his garage.  Most of his work was drawing out broken jack hammer bits and heat treating them. During those days as a teenager, I would help around the shop.  I would swing the sledgehammer as we would draw out the large jack hammer bits. I marveled at his ability to forge a blank piece of steel into something of value.

I developed an interest in learning the trade from my grandpa.  Going off to college, moving away, and starting a career in engineering I didn’t pursue my interest.  When grandpa passed away, I inherited his tools, which lay dormant for many years.

I retired in 2018 and decided to pursue blacksmithing as a hobby.  I also have great interest in history and thought it would be very exciting forging medieval weapons.  I received a great education from the great bladesmiths on YouTube and what grandpa taught me.

Since then, I started my own YouTube channel “Forging & More”.  The “More” in Forging & More, are the many other do it yourself projects that I do.  My objective is to share what I do with others and hopefully inspire viewers to pursue this trade or other “do it yourself type projects”.
I hope you enjoy my videos.

The forging experienced showed me there was much to learn by doing.  In the beginning my work was slow with many mistakes but the more experience I gained the better the quality of my work became.  I began making more challenging and creative projects.

Have you ever had something appear in your mind so clearly, that you just HAD to build it?
You can do it, if you put your heart and mind to the task. I started out just hammering on a leaf
spring until it was in the shape of a sword.

My first project was not perfect by any stretch, but it was a start. That's how great things happen.
If you want to work with forged steel, it takes a lot of time and effort, but it will be well worth your energy.

Just pick up a hammer and an anvil and start pounding...
